ABOUT DAGMAR ACKERMAN
Dagmar Ackerman is a glass artist from Sydney, Australia and is Quay Gallery's 'token Aussie'. Dagmar originally studied graphic design and spent many years in this space until a revelation that there must be 'more to life' saw her pursue her dream of becoming a glass artist.
"My fascination with glass has always been compelling. I find its apparent fragility and paradoxically, its great strength, extremely appealing. My first works in glass and light, with the use of vibrant colour and strong graphic shapes, which are reminiscent of my training as a graphic designer. I continue to utilise my graphic experience when designing for glass. My inspiration comes from the unique Australian landscape. I utilise the colours of the outback, reef and rainforest. I have been using new techniques to emphasise the ever changing and yet perennial nature of our unique Australian landscape. In my latest body of work I have created increasingly intricate pieces, reminiscent of the complexities of nature. Combinations of complementing colours create living and continuously changing characteristics, which are inherent to all living things." Dagmar used the enforced 'time out' in 2020 to look at a new direction in her works - unique pieces that have challenged and taken her on a learning curve in order to achieve her desired result. We thoroughly enjoy the Australian influence and inspiration that is reflected in Dagmar's pieces. The diverse Australian landscape is so evident and is wonderfully acknowledged within each piece and we are so very excited to bring this series to Quay Art Gallery. |
