ABOUT LYNETTE HOLSCHIER
Lynette Holschier is a Napier artist who brings portraits to life in pencil...
This is my story, my name is Lynette Holschier and I always wanted to be an artist when I grew up. I was always making/creating things when I was a little girl, whatever I could lay my hands on. My earliest memory that still delights me to this day is getting my very first tin of watercolour paint, I loved those little pans of colour, loved being able to mix them with water and seeing them come to life on a piece of paper or colouring book. Oh how I still love to go into an art shop today and open up a new tin and see those wonderful pans of colour and imagine what can be done with them, even though I don’t use watercolour as my main medium they inspire me. I think because the colour is immediate - what you see is what you get and I love that. I haven’t always been able to be the creative I wanted to be. Life happened, work, marriage, children and now grandchildren, but it has been a journey. An ever changing, evolving journey - recreating myself through the ups and downs of life. I am grateful for the gift of creativity and am thankful that during the hard times it has been my self preservation. It was through a time of grief that I let the artist in me out to play and while it soothed my soul it opened up a whole new world for me, gave me the courage to seek what makes my heart sing and that is to draw/paint/explore possibilities and see what happens. I dont have any formal art training, only life experiences and intuition and that has allowed me to do things my way, life is full of rules and this is one area where I didn’t want to get hung up on all the do’s and don’ts. I love to begin with a piece of white paper/canvas and watch as the substrate transforms through its everchanging layers upon layers of colour - whether it be pencil, acrylic, watercolour or oil, I have dabbled with them all. I love to mix it up, but it’s the humble coloured pencil that captivates me. I have taught myself how to manipulate these little sticks of pure pigment encased in wood and bound with an oil or wax binder. They take me to my happy place, when ever and wherever I may be and I have trained my eye to draw/paint what I see. I love to watch people and the world go by and to imagine where it takes them and what is their story, and so my next art piece begins. We love the beauty in Lynette's works. Her respect for the subject, her love of the medium are so evident in each piece. There is something special in these portraits. |
