ABOUT SARA LANGDON
Sara Langdon is an Auckland based contemporary landscape artist who draws inspiration from the beauty of familiar and distinct volcanic landmarks around the city.
“My work is not just a replication of the landscape but a response to the beauty I see there.” Sara studied and practiced photography, then went on to teach Art and Art History before moving to London with her husband where she spent four years soaking in the richness of England and Europe’s galleries and museums. On returning to Auckland in 2009, it was not long before Sara turned her working practice to focus solely on painting. “…the detours I took along the way have all played a role in returning me to my love of landscape.” Sara’s work is a fresh approach to landscape realism. Light dances across the terraces and craters, with her photographer trained eye carefully selecting compositions and viewpoints. She is most interested in capturing and highlighting the detail and beauty of each mountain. “I am drawn to the constantly changing appearance of the slopes and trees as the light alters with the time of day and the season.” Sara works primarily in acrylic on board, canvas and paper. She has completed a number of large landscape commissions and her work hangs in private collections in New Zealand and overseas. |
