Tokiko - Venus Glass
ABOUT TOKIKO
Tokiko works from her glass blowing studio - Venus Glass in Christchurch where she became a main art glass producer in 2010.
She describes her process: "Glass is melted at 1300℃ in a specially made LPG furnace. It is then worked by hand and breathe in its molten state using tools and techniques that have barely changed in two thousand years". Tokiko produces works of extraordinary beauty. Her skill and the Japanese influence on her art is apparent in every piece. Colours are so vibrant and bold - light reflects beautifully off carefully molded exteriors, while the interior of each piece holds more intrigue and a wonderful new perspective. Tokiko's Miyabi bowls are particularly beautiful. Miyabi means 'elegant beauty' in Japanese and these bowls, with their incredible patterns which reflect so wonderfully onto surfaces in light and the silver foil accents, are just that - elegantly beautiful. Each piece is carefully and lovingly created. Each piece is individual in design. Beautiful bespoke art glass to treasure and enjoy. |
