ABOUT REBEKAH HALL
Rebekah Hall is a ceramic artist living and working at the top of the South Island, New Zealand. Originally a Mental Health Nurse from the UK she moved to New Zealand with her family in 2005.
Rebekah initially undertook studies in Sculpture, Design and Life Drawing at Hungry Creek Art School, Puhoi followed by a Diploma in Ceramic Art, Auckland Studio Potters, 2013. A move to Marlborough in 2016 saw her reconnect with her art practice, and she now works full time from The Kauri Tree Studio at her home in Picton. The creative process for Rebekah is always a slow one, it is about taking time to connect with the natural world surrounding her, exploring this a little deeper and listening to the response that this observation and connection ignites within. Inspiration comes from pattern, texture and the colours found within the stunning landscape of the Marlborough Sounds. Working with a select range of clays, her hand-built pieces are an elegant, simple, restrained nod to the original inspiration rather than a direct copy. Rebekah will often incorporate local clays and sand into the work or will smoke fire with locally sourced materials. Rebekah’s ceramic pieces encourage you to get close, touch, explore from different viewpoints hopefully enabling the viewer to connect with her and her work in a shared story of place. These are beautifully considered pieces, wonderfully organic and tactile. We adore each piece and are so pleased to bring them through our gallery. |
