ABOUT TUT BLUMENTAL
Tut Blumental is an artist whose artistic journey has seen her work evolve from realistic scenes to abstract land and seascape paintings of extraordinary beauty. Tut spent 20 years as a graphic designer before allowing her passion for art become her life and she now paints full time in her studio in Orewa.
Hailing originally from Israel, Tut is greatly influenced by the environment and her surroundings. While that is currently the light, air and beauty of New Zealand, she also draws from her memories of her homeland. Over coffee in her studio, Tut told me of the similarities between New Zealand and Israel – the green of the land, the blue of the ocean and the beauty of these places that she draws into her work. She also explained the differences - especially in reference to the influence of her hometown Be’er Sheva – the largest city in the Negev desert of Southern Israel. Having lived in Israel during the terror reign of Saddam Hussein, Tut knows the reality of living in fear. Of reaching for a gas mask at the sound of a siren, of working as a medic in the Israeli army. This aspect of her life brings an additional appreciation for the peaceful life she now lives in this country and that appreciation translates in the beauty of her work. Tut can walk to the beach, she can enjoy the ocean and surrounding landscape - and she just has to paint it. There is a simplicity and elegance in Tut’s work. Sky bleeding into ocean, into river, into land, into sand. The scenes offer up a sense of the peace Tut has found in this country and we are so pleased to represent her work at Quay Gallery. |
