Nicholas Hayter
ABOUT NICHOLAS HAYTER
Nicholas Hayter was born in Hawke's Bay and grew up in an artistic family that encouraged creativity. Nick has been painting in his preferred medium of oils for fourteen years and has pursued a full-time career in art for the past ten years.
We met Nick in his gorgeous garden studio in Napier and fell in love with his work. His thickly textured oil paintings are simply stunning and his beach scenes take us there, sitting on the hot sand enjoying the summer breeze. Small pieces full of texture and light. He is a self-taught artist, enjoying studio painting but also ‘plein-air’ (out-of-doors). He paints in a vivid, impressionist style revealing a unique depth of colour and light distinctive of the natural landscape of New Zealand. His subjects include seascapes, rural scenes, still-life and some figurative work. Recently Nick has added palette knife techniques to his repertoire, adding a richness and additional depth of texture to his paintings. Nick’s awards for his skilful artistry include 'Best Oil Painting' at the Paraparaumu Rotary Art show 2011 and a merit award at the same exhibition in 2013. His paintings have been exhibited widely throughout New Zealand in group exhibitions and three solo exhibitions. Nicholas' paintings have also featured in many New Zealand contemporary art calendars. In 2015 Nicholas was invited to be the Selector for the Ninth Annual Art Hawke's Bay exhibition, 'Hawke's Bay Naturally'. Paintings by Nicholas Hayter are held in private collections in the USA, UK, Australia, Singapore, France, Canada, Japan and throughout New Zealand. |
