'Underwater Galaxy' by Andrea Ventling
Watercolour, inks on paper - concertina booklet incorporating underwater imagery and poetry.
Artist Statement:
A concertina booklet telling the story of a dive, going down through the water column encountering glistening fish, being bathed in light, going further seeing seaweed with fish swimming past and hiding in it, going even deeper and finding red corals in a rocky overhang. Finally coming up to air and sunlight again being followed by more schooling little fish.
I have just started doing this kind of painting to process memories and weaving in imagination.
In my art practice I am interested in finding ways to convey movement and light.
Sketching is a tool for me where I can experiment and test possibilities within composition, colours, materials and techniques and how far I can take these.
Every sketch is an experience while making it but also an experience gained through discoveries. A sketch is not like a finished and planned artwork. It often has surprising and new elements, happens spontaneously and can lead to interesting accidental marks.
