ABOUT JENNIFER COOK-BATTERSBY
Jennifer Cook-Battersby is a fine New Zealand artist. Largely self-taught she is painting better now than ever and her work is representative of the times we are living in and what we should all be focused on - preserving and enjoying the good around us. She is wildly inspired by the beautiful native bush that surrounds her home in Taupo and the birdlife that sings to her in her studio every day.
In Jennifer’s latest works - 'Feathered Friends' NZ Wildlife is depicted and defined in concise and alluringly precise detail that only the finest oil pigments, a clever eye and a skilled hand can deliver – these pieces are very much ‘of the moment’ and Jennifer does this so very beautifully as to ensure her works will be appreciated now and for many years to come. |
Jennifer has transitioned through many phases in her artistic career. From the times when her Grandfather would take the family out driving - looking at clouds, trees, the beach and then encourage her to paint these in watercolor. Jennifer confesses to having ‘painted her way through life’. A wonderful confession to be able to make and one that shows in the beauty of her works.
Not wanting to be ‘pigeon-holed’, or ‘known for one thing’, Jennifer has tried many techniques, styles and experimented with subject matter to ensure her continual growth as an artist, and as a person. She has not necessarily ‘studied’ art but she has never stopped learning and developing in order to achieve her vision for each piece. She reads a lot and believes you can never know it all.
She has focused on learning tricks and techniques that add life, luster and depth to her works.

It was a joy to spend time with Jennifer in her studio and to get to know such a vivacious and inspiring fine artist.
