Dejin Lu
ABOUT DEJIN LU
Dejin Lu is an emerging artist based in Hamilton. Born and raised in Nanjing of China, Dejin graduated from Nanjing University in 2009 with Bachelor Degree of Biology Science and moved to New Zealand in 2011. He has a huge passion for traditional Chinese watercolour art, one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world.
Like calligraphy, this form of art is done with bamboo brush dipped in black ink or coloured pigments, usually on rice paper or silk. Lines are used not only to draw contours but also to express the artist's concepts and feelings. The use of lines and strokes is one of the elements that give Chinese water ink painting its unique qualities. Inspired by nature, Dejin's work depicts Bird & Flower (or Flora & Fauna) in a soft, clean style. Dejin has started learning the unique Flora & Fauna in New Zealand and including them in his art. His brushstrokes are light, inky and expressive. His composition creates flow & movement while remaining balanced and leaving white space for imagination. History can be felt and the symbolism can be interpreted in his art. We are pleased to represent this talented emerging artist in the gallery and look forward to seeing his growth as he develops his art. |
