Gaye Downing profile
Gaye Downing started painting in late 2010. Gaye has a passion for old style oil painting and uses the alla prima method of working 'wet in wet'.
Still life were her beginnings, however, New Zealand native birds have become her focus of late and she has been commissioned throughout New Zealand to paint birds, portraits, horses and other animals.
Inspiration is gleaned through studying artists such as John Singer Sargent, Richard Schmid and especially Raymond Ching.
With 26 years as a commercial artist & graphic designer, Gaye has a keen eye for detail and is a perfectionist. These qualities come through in her paintings.
