'Fields (3) - Clevedon' by Megan Murphy
Hand drawn clay tile
Size: 18.5 x 13cm
Every time I drive out to the countryside, it gives me pause.
A time to take a breath and gather my equilibrium.
A time to come back to self.
I was brought up on a poultry farm in Weymouth, so travelling out to the beautiful country areas of Aotearoa takes me back to the love I had for the green hills, fields and farm animals, with so much life all around. I used to love trekking over the hills gathering seasonal mushrooms and blackberries and imagining all sorts of worlds from playing in the old barns that were scattered around.
The act of creating these hand-drawn clay tiles has also given me a reason to pause. A time to sit and record these moments of peace and rest. To take time out from life’s challenges and just be with the pencils, to make fresh new marks on to the clay. Unbeknown to me, until I embarked on this series, is the belief that the colour green is a healing colour. Perhaps unconsciously, spending time working on these artworks was what I needed right now, to help me heal.
I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have enjoyed creating them. f you would like to see more of my work I have done over the years, look at my website: meganmurphy.co.nz
