ABOUT ANDREEA BERINDEI
Andreea Ionela Berindei (b. 1985, Romania) is a self-taught fine artist residing in New Zealand. Since establishing her practice in Southern California, where she was represented by Paradigm Gallery, Santa Ana, for a 2018 solo show, she has gained international recognition for her stunningly realistic acrylic paintings of ocean scenes and waterscapes. She continues to translate her thalassophobia into hyper-real acrylic seascapes, attributing her creative inspiration to her faith.
Two in-depth profiles by My Modern Met—July 2016 and an interview in September 2021—first drew international attention to the paradox at the centre of her work: “I struggle with thalassophobia, the fear of large bodies of water,” she reflects. Gallery highlights since include two shows at LagunaART Gallery, California in 2022. Andreea's paintings rest in private collections across New Zealand, North America, Canada, Europe, China, the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates, with one work housed in Dubai’s Presidential Palace. She has also received multiple awards from The Peace Project’s international juried exhibitions (USA, 2012-2013) for art contributing to social change. With over 177,000 Instagram followers and 28,000 Facebook followers, Andreea shares both her finished works and her creative process with a substantial online audience. Quay Gallery will bring Andreea's first New Zealand exhibition - 'New Shores', opening Saturday 7 June, 2 to 4pm. Exhibition dates: 8 to 30 June. |
